MULTIPURPOSE COMMUNITY TELECENTER (MCT)

There is a need to establish a community based telecentres in every inhabited island to help bridge the digital divide to facilitate e-government, empower the islanders to take the opportunities available through ICT connectivity. The MCT concept involves the creation of telecentres in a community based location, where a variety of ICT services such as telephones, fax, voice mail, Internet (including e-mail) TV and radio for information and recreation will be provided to the and run in a sustainable way.

The IT Policy formulation project has also components to:

- Formulate business models to ensure the sustainability of the Telecenters; and

- Digitizing hands-on, instructive documents as initial information package. A more comprehensive content development is envisaged to be done as a follow-on project
