Ms. Aishath Malika Ibrahim Receives the National
Award for Special Achievement
The President of the Republic of Maldives, H. E. Maumoon Abdul
Qayoom has awarded Ms. Aishath Malika Ibrahim, the National
Award for Special Achievement.
The Award was presented to her on November 17, 2003, at the
official function held to commemorate the Republic Day 2003,
where the President gave away Government's Awards for Outstanding
Service to the Public and for Special Achievement’.
The National Award for Special achievement is awarded to those
who achieve distinction for the country from abroad.
Ms. Malika received this award in recognition of her achieving
the first place on the MSc Information Systems Management
Course at South Bank University for the academic year 2000/01.
Her dissertation and research was based, predominantly on
electronic government, in which she has proposed a structural
model for e-government for Maldives – a model which
could be emulated to transform a small island nation like
Maldives from a ‘paper’ government to a ‘paperless’
or a ‘modern’ electronic government.
Ms. Aishath Malika Ibrahim joined the Ministry of Communication,
Science and Technology (MCST) on April 27, 1999 as a Program
Officer. Under MCST’s capacity building programme, she
was awarded this fellowship under a grant aid received from
ADB. She left for her masters studies on September 13, 2000.
After successful completion of her studies, Ms. Mailka returned
to Maldives on 24 October 2001, and is presently employed
at MCST as the Assistant Director in charge of Information
Technology. She is currently leading the team that is working
on formulating the National ICT Policy.
